Jakarta, Indonesia, August 5, 2020 – Suntory Garuda Beverage (SGB) today held the first National Mizuiku Festival (FMN) in Indonesia. With a 120-minute virtual education format, FMN went lively and was attended by 250 children and teacher representatives from 18 Adiwiyata schools from 6 regions in Indonesia. Hundreds of other guests, including journalists, management of Suntory Garuda Beverage and its parent company Suntory in Japan, Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Association of Indonesian Adiwiyata Activists (HPAI), SGB employees and their children, also watched through streaming media.
"We express our highest appreciation for the initiative of PT. Suntory Garuda Beverage to launch Mizuiku program - water conservation education (I Love Clean Water) that has been going on since 2019. We hope that the Mizuiku Program can encourage school residents, especially educators and students, to carry out the Environmental Care and Cultivated Movement in Schools (PBLHS) especially in application of environmentally friendly behavior in schools related to aspects of water conservation, "stated Cicilia Sulastri, SH., M.Sc. Head of the Community Training and Development Center for Environmental Generations - Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia.
"Mizuiku - I Love Clean Water" is a sustainable program from Suntory in Japan to promote awareness and importance of clean water to children so that they can become agents of change in the preservation of clean water. Mizuiku started in 2004 in Japan and launched in Indonesia in 2019.
Ong Yuh Hwang, Chief Executive Officer & President Director, Suntory Garuda Beverage, said, "We are very happy to share Mizuiku in Indonesia. In the second year of its implementation, we are grateful for the full support from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesian Association of Adiwiyata Activists, so that Mizuiku can be aligned with Adiwiyata, Indonesia School-Based Environmental Education Program in Schools. "
"Supporting the Government's efforts to provide the best education for students in the Distance Learning period, Mizuiku specifically developed virtual learning and training modules. For Principals and Teachers, they can be involved in certified Train-the-Trainer classes and environment module teaching strategy competitions. For Students, we hold Online Mizuiku Festival, virtual classes and competitions that give children simple projects for preserving clean water. In addition, Mizuiku will also focus on fostering schools in sorting and processing waste to ensure clean water conservation. The Mizuiku program will be facilitated by a team of teachers who have strong competence, experience and educational background. Like in 2019, we also mobilize SGB employees to get involved in learning classes and clean water programs for schools and communities," added Ong.
After a brief opening ceremony by the Indonesian Ministry of the Environment and the Indonesian Adiwiyata Activist Association, the National Mizuiku Festival (FMN) continued with an interactive explanation of the water cycle, clean water in my environment, a water tower that taught the importance of planting trees and how to keep water clean through sorting and waste processing. The material at these learning posts shared through animated videos, Mizuiku dances, water cycle claps and various simple experiments.
The National Mizuiku Festival (FMN) will be continued with the Regional Mizuiku Festival (FMW) for the Jakarta area on August 14, 2020, Gowa and Sidoarjo on August 18, 2020 and Banjarbaru and Tangerang on the upcoming August 25, 2020. FMW involves a number of participants between 300 - 600 children and teachers per region.
Continuing the education of I Love Clean Water which began in 2019, in this second year, Mizuiku received support from schools that had received Adiwiyata certification. With a strong commitment from the school community, Mizuiku convinced to contribute significantly for the practice of learning to preserve the environment in Adiwiyata School, especially related to clean water conservation.
Furthermore, in certified Mizuiku Train-the-Trainer sessions, the Principal and Teacher will be invited to identify the potential and problems of water in their environment. The results of the identification are then contained in the Learning Program Plan (RPP). RPP gives freedom to teacher to integrate learning about the preservation of clean water into variety of learning subjects and must be related to the daily context of students in their homes, schools and environments. By doing so, students can easily practice the knowledge and ability to preserve the clean water they have acquired.
Running simultaneously with an educational program, Mizuiku also provides access to clean water and sanitation, water conservation through rainwater harvesting, biopores, greening and management of plastic waste, to schools and communities in the Company's production sites. These are real initiatives from Mizuiku for a cleaner and greener Indonesia, so that we together can pass on the healthy environment and clean water to the next generation.
